Wrapping Up 2019
Volunteers help make the Mercedes-Benz Club of America successful. I often write about all of our volunteers, those who put countless hours into serving our members with entertaining and educational events. We need to continue to thank our volunteers who lead and help in putting together these experiences. Just as with events, there are too many volunteers to thank for one article. However, this a perfect opportunity to recognize just a few.
Thanking our volunteers
Thank you, David Abarr, for leading a successful Legends of the Autobahn® and to Allen Stephens for his continued support. This event was previously developed and overseen by Laura Simonds, past national vice president, who also did a great job launching this event. And a shout-out to Charlie and Leslee Marlow for the many years of helping with the field setup, putting together the membership tent and handling many other logistics. Last, but not least, a thank you to Jon Bernardi for being the chief judge who leads the judging activities at Legends. Thanks for a job well done.
Past National President Jim O’Sullivan is instrumental in putting together the exceptional member-only German Tours to Stuttgart which continue to receive rave reviews. These tours always fill up quickly with many new and returning members. They provide an encompassing experience that is next to none. To learn more about the trips, visit www.mbca.org.
As national concours committee chair, Past National President Peter Lesler continues to provide leadership and direction for concours-judging activities for members around the country. His passion, depth of knowledge and dedication provide members with a service that is unparalleled to other venues. Thank you, Peter, for your contributions to the club.
Thanks to Jason Burton, midwest regional director, for offering an amazing experience with defensive driving. If you haven’t been a part of a defensive-driving event, I would encourage you to consider participating. The knowledge these volunteers share, in providing a training program that indeed saves lives, is invaluable.
I encourage everyone to take a moment in thanking all of our volunteers, including our leadership. This club has so much to offer that wouldn’t be possible without these people.

We appreciate Marcel Schuh from Mercedes-Benz Classic in Stuttgart and Constantin von Kageneck and Michael Kunz from Mercedes-Benz Classic Center USA for supporting club activities that provide an amazing experience for members. Members truly appreciate the partnership with Mercedes-Benz Classic and MBUSA, and we look forward to the relationship for many years to come.
Thank you to Tim Garner, General Manager of Airstream, for continuing to attend and provide Airstreams for display at events throughout the country. Our members appreciate Airstream’s continued support for the club’s events.
Finally, special thanks to Cris Vanderburg at Hagerty Insurance. MBCA partnered with Hagerty this year to provide members with insurance discounts. You will also see Cris at multiple events throughout the country supporting club events and our members.
From our families to yours
As you read this column, the holidays will be soon be upon us. Along with the very busy summer, we all have the opportunity to meet new friends and see old friends. As we do, our family grows, and membership becomes something much greater.
