The world is finally starting to open back up. And with the opening of the world, I actually have places to go in my beloved SL550. During the lockdown, I periodically went out, more so to exercise the car and smile, but now, I actually have places to go, and things to do in my car. It feels great!

It has been an interesting few months, as we all know. As I have told you, we have been working hard in the background for the benefit of the club. The work is somewhat different in terms of format, but we are remaining productive. The truth of the matter is that I’m feeling really fortunate right now, as I have absolutely nothing to complain about. I’m healthy and while my life is different, I am still having a great time and have been very blessed through this pandemic.

At the same time, not far away from us, or even within our organization, there are others who are struggling because of health, economic or mental challenges. By the law of averages, I am guessing that if you are reading this column, you’re probably just as fortunate as me. While there are challenges day to day now, our challenges pale in comparison to the challenges that others not far from us face on a daily basis.

While I am always proud of the MBCA community, I am most proud of our organization’s dedication to service. Often, we use the holidays as a time for outreach and investment in our communities. And we do wonderful things for needy people together as sections.

As you are reading this column, it is early September, which means that I am writing this column in late July. The holidays are a long way off. In COVID-19 time, we’d need to double the time since we locked down to get to the holidays. In the meantime, people in our communities will continue to struggle with those health, economic or mental challenges. And there’s no telling what the holiday season will look like this year – we may be together, or we may not, depending on how this virus evolves.

The generosity and good character of our organization is intact 365 days per year. Our members are one-of-a-kind, and our true spirit is at its best when we bestow a portion of our good fortune back to our communities.

My challenge to all of us is to share our good fortune with our communities. Do it this week, this month, today. Depending on your level of comfort, help those in need. Donate resources or your time and effort to those in your communities who are not as lucky as you. Work individually, or together with your friends and fellow section members to positively impact your community. And then report back to me as to how our organization is helping those in need. I’d love to devote future columns to showcasing how the true spirit of MBCA has helped our communities during this difficult time.

Even though car shows and many events are on hold, the ability to positively affect our communities is possible all year long. I appreciate your taking this challenge seriously. I have my own plans and will report back to you.
