Long-distance tours as a new kind of club event, and the importance of volunteers.

620 Miles of Pure Bliss

Our club consists of 85 sections throughout the United States and Canada, which means there is a great variety of beautiful and scenic landmarks for Mercedes-Benz Club of America members to visit. Our sections host incredible events that celebrate driving the cars we enjoy through spectacular scenery to breathtaking destinations. We recently experienced this during StarFest® 2018.

The Best or Nothing

The MBCA prides itself on creating and supporting events that provide a legendary experience for club members. As I write this column, I am at the end of one of those experiences. Silver Stars & Golden Aspens, a special national event hosted by the Pikes Peak Section, is one example of MBCA’s best-or-nothing experiences to which we are accustomed.

Silver Stars & Golden Aspens was a four-day celebration that covered 620 miles over three days of challenging driving through the gorgeous Colorado scenery. And it exceeded members’ expectations. Attendees represented 14 states with eight members traveling from Canada. The gathering reached maximum capacity, with 80 attendees signing up in the first nine weeks of registration.

Thinking back, what excites me the most about Silver Stars & Golden Aspens is that other MBCA sections are hosting similar events throughout the United States and Canada. And we now have a template that can be shared for other sections to implement. The Pikes Peak Section is creating this template and is more than willing to share their planning process with other sections: They can then offer the same unforgettable experience to members. I encourage section leaders to contact the Pikes Peak Section to learn more.

It’s all down to comitted volunteers

If you read my columns, you will see a common theme. Our volunteers make all the difference in allowing these kinds of events to be possible. Significant effort and detailed planning are critical to bringing incredible experiences like Silver Stars & Golden Aspens to our members. A special “Thank You” to the Pikes Peak Section volunteers for hitting this one out of the park.

We also should offer considerable acknowledgment to the MBCA’s National Board for recognizing how the Silver Stars & Golden Aspen event adds to the club’s event inventory.
