StarFest 2012 ‘Safe Drivers, Safe Families’ New Drivers Program

The new MBCA Educational Foundation “Safe Drivers, Safe Families” program debuted at StarFest 2012, with the inaugural presentation of the New Drivers training program. Young drivers took part in a comprehensive day of hands-on and classroom trainings.

The program began by teaching the new drivers how to do a mechanical and safety inspection, including important basics such as checking tire pressure.

Participants were coached through various driving maneuvers, including accident avoidance techniques of turning, braking, and car control.

Program spokesperson Lauren Howe, a new driver herself, led roundtable discussions of good driving attitudes.

Students practiced maneuvers in their own cars. Experienced driving instructors and coaches led all the sessions, including this one on how to do a basic mechanical and safety inspection on the student’s own automobile.
