When anyone mentions Tyson’s Corner in the Washington DC area, automotive enthusiasts immediately think of Mercedes-Benz of Tysons Corner and its long history supporting the sports car community, though for many, the dealership is still referred to as HBL.  HBL refers to the legendary group of dealerships that Horst B. Lantsch founded starting with a Volkswagen dealership at Fairfax Circle in 1959 then expanding to Tysons Corner when they opened up a Mercedes-Benz dealership in 1980. Today these dealerships are a part of the Penske Automotive Group (PAG), a publicly traded company, featuring brands such as Audi, Aston Martin, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, and the Smart line of automobiles, for which PAG is the sole distributor for in the USA.  PAG operates Mercedes-Benz dealerships in Europe as well as throughout the USA.  In late 2010 they expanded further into Northern Virginia adding a Mercedes-Benz and Audi dealership in Chantilly VA.

The Tysons Corner dealership is a well-known destination for Mercedes-Benz enthusiasts, attracting customers from around the country and the world, as they offer an extensive inventory of new and pre-owned Mercedes-Benzes, a multi-level mechanical service facility, and extensive collision center. The dealership employs a diverse workforce of more than 170 people who speak more than 10 languages.  With 67 service bays dedicated to the Mercedes-Benz brand, which service over 36,000 vehicles annually out of the Tyson’s Corner location.  In addition, the dealership employs 42 highly skilled, I-CAR certified, technicians in their collision shop, which specialize in hard-to-fix vehicles, and is one of the largest luxury car collision centers in the nation repairing over 300 vehicles of differing makes.

Mercedes-Benz of Tysons Corner’s tall classically designed modern building is a landmark along the busy Dulles technology corridor, just off the Dulles Toll Road and Rte 7, Leesburg Pike, with the bright blue Mercedes-Benz logo beaconing to all who pass by.  In 2013 the dealership will have direct access to a new station on Metrorail’s silver line, being built directly in front, extending Washington’s Subway out to Dulles Airport.

Customers of Mercedes-Benz of Tysons Corner benefit from this state-of-the-art Mercedes-Benz dealership through its experienced employee base which knows the brand inside and out. One such employee is long-time MBCA member, and past Greater Washington Section President, Norbert Lamp. He has been called the Mercedes-Benz whisperer by those owning older and classic Mercedes-Benz vehicles in the Washington area.  Norbert started his career in Germany at the Daimler-Benz AG factory repair facility in 1960 working on the legendary 300SL Gullwings and roadsters, and Pagodas, the 230 and 250 SLs of the 1960s. Norbert has logged more hours on historic and significant Mercedes-Benz vehicles than probably any other specialist in the industry today.

Mercedes-Benz of Tysons Corner has been an active sponsor of MBCA events including national events such as StarFest®.  The dealership has taken an active role in supporting the club’s premier national event in 1988, 1994 and this past one held in Winchester, Virginia, last September.
